Cover-Flux & Modifier

DHATUKARM fluxes are available for covering, refining, modifying and protecting aluminium and aluminium alloy melts by forming a protective cover over the metal. Coverflux minimises oxidation and gas pick-up by the metal and produces dross having minimum metal content.

Different types of coverflux powders are indicated below:

Cover-Flux-1:
Used in crucible furnace at an initial stage that generates exothermic reaction and gives a dross exceptionally low in metal content. For 100 Kg of metal, only 0.5-1.0 Kg powder is added.

over-Flux-2:
Specially recommended for melting in reverberatory and rotary furnaces. The flux melts at a lower temperature and provides very effective cover over a large surface area of the melt and prevents slag build-up on the furnace walls. For 100 Kg of metal, only 0.5-1.0 Kg powder is added.

Cover-Flux-3:
Used in rotary, crucible and electric furnaces for remelting swarf, boring, turnings and dross of aluminium, prevent thermitting. It is a covering and protecting flux. Its application rate depends on the quality of borings and drosses and ranges from 5-20 Kg for 100 Kg to melt.

Cover-Flux-4 (Bogi Flux):
Highly reactive flux for most economic separation of metal from hot drosses in Bogies soon after they are skimmed from the furnaces. For 100 Kg of metal, only 5-10 Kg powder is added.

Cover-Flux-5:
In aluminium extrusion, coverflux-5 is specially recommended for melting in reverberatory and rotary furnaces. For 100 Kg of metal, only 0.5-1.0 Kg powder is added.

Cover-Flux-6:
Special flux for A1-Mg alloy(3-6% Mg). Initially about 0.5 Kg of coverflux-6 should be sprinkled over 100 Kg of solid charge in the furnace. When the charge becomes molten, another 2 Kg of this flux should be evenly spread to provide thick liquid cover over the metal during degassing. The metal should finally be drossed off with Coverflux-1.

MODIFIER-29:
Modifier-29 is a highly effective flux for modification of Al-Si alloys(9-13% Si). These alloys are melted under cover of suitable cover flux degassed and then the slag is drossed off when the metal is at a temperature between 780-800 `C. For 100 Kg of metal, only 0.5-1.0 Kg Modifier-29 is added.

MODIFIER-36:
Modifier-36 is a flux for modifying Al-Si alloys(6-13% Si) at the temperature of 740-750 `C. For 100 Kg of metal, only 2-3 Kg Modifier-36 is added.
